The Vooruit building is celebrating its 100th anniversary in 2013, an excellent opportunity for a party. The Socialist movement built the ‘Feestlokaal’ or Party Room of Vooruit in 1913, the same year that the world exhibition was organised in Ghent. It had to be an “opera for the working people”, offering blue-collar workers a café, a restaurant, entertainment and education. 2013 will be a year of festivities. From 1 May onwards the Vooruit building will be in the spotlight, in Sint-Pietersnieuwstraat as well as throughout the city, in the STAM city museum, in a book and in a TV documentary together with the many associations, workers, artists and visitors who have been loyal visitors of this building over the years!
